First and foremost, it’s absolutely important to pick someone with prior USPTO experience as positioned locally in Alexandra, Virginia; Mount Washington, D.C. close to the patent office that can provide face to face personal interaction with the examiners examining your case. It will result in broader claims, shorter prosecution, higher quality patents that will stand the test of rigors of litigation.
By hiring a firm close to the PTO, you can significantly save costs and increase the quality of your patents. However you won’t incur the travel fees associated with firms, for example, in California or in the mid-west to travel to the USPTO and conduct examiners interviews and you’ll pay for all those travel costs.
